Many people consider Middlesex County to be one of the best counties to live in Massachusetts. And we agree Middlesex County is indeed one of the best areas to live in the United States. However, not all parts of the county are equal. Naturally, some places are simply better, as they provide more opportunities, better schooling systems, higher wages, and more safety. And today, we are going to focus on all of those factors in our list of the nicest suburban areas in Middlesex County.


Lexington is certainly one of the best suburban towns in Middlesex. And for a county that is praised so much, this certainly isn’t a small accomplishment. Lexington has a population of around 34 thousand people with a median home value of around $850 thousand.

This suburban town has some great schools, which makes it perfect for families with children. Also, it is a very calm and crime-free town, and people, in general, consider it to be a safe place to live and raise a family. Its location is perfect, and it has been considered to be one of the most liberal cities in the US. This shouldn’t come as a surprise, as young people prefer to move to this suburban city. People from Boston, as a result, sometimes jokingly call it “The People’s Republic of Cambridge”. However, this is just a joke, and it shouldn’t be taken seriously.

However, Wayland is not at all isolated and disconnected from major Massachusetts hubs. All in all, Wayland is a pretty little town, that punches far above its weight. Also, this town is pretty cheap to live in with a median home value of just $687 thousand. It is a bargain for such a place.


A slightly bigger town than Wayland, Westford certainly deserves to be among previously listed suburban towns and cities. From 2010 to 2020 the population of Westford has risen by 12%, proving that Massachusetts is one of the best states in the US for families and young people alike. It’s good for children and it’s safe, so you don’t have to worry about theft and other crimes.
Getting a home in Westford is even easier than in Wayland since the median home value here is at $530 thousand. So, it should come as no surprise why people are moving in masses to this charming little town. Its public education is fantastic, and people we asked say that they feel quite safe living in Westford.
Westford has plenty of annual events, and people from all over the state love to visit this charming place. Some of the most important events definitely are the Strawberry Festival, “the birthday of the best person in town”, and many others. For such a little town it is almost surprising how festive the atmosphere is.
